Puppy Chow Energy Bites

I started this platform a little over a year ago and I have so many recipes and ideas rolling around in my head. I took some time to reorganize, refocus, and readjust where I’d like this all to go. That’s the beauty of flexible goals, there is no need to make yourself feel guilty for not “meeting a goal.” The definition of meeting a goal can constantly change, just as it has for me and this blog.

Enough of that though, let’s talk PUPPY CHOW!

Puppy chow is one of those indulgent snacks I used to get as a gift. Mainly friends would make it and bag it up for us this time of year. I also used to feel guilty eating it because it wasn’t as “healthy” as say, a carrot. Bullshit, right? Not every snack we eat has to be some perfect definition of health! It does take practice, but learning to enjoy things in moderation without guilt helps to improve your food independence.

I could have made regular old puppy chow, but since I’m starting to prepare for all the things I want to make before baby…I made puppy chow energy bites! I’ve got a few other energy bites recipes: Almond Butter Date Bites or Low-Sugar Oreo Energy Bites. These ones took a little trial and error and they are light in chocolate chips for personal preferences. I’ve never been a chocolate lover, so if you are be sure to double the amount.

These freeze well for about one to three months, so you can bet your chow that I’ll be making these in February preparing for baby’s arrival! As baby’s due date get’s closer, I’ll be sure to share all of the freezer meals and snacks I plan on making.

Puppy Chow Energy Bites

Course Snack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted, roasted almonds
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar plus some for rolling
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips or reg chocolate
  • 1 cup whole dates, pitted about 8

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients into a food processor and blend until it's all chopped. You might see it start to clump.

  2. Roll into balls and roll in powdered sugar if desired.

  3. Makes about 8-12 bites depending on the size. Alternatively you could press this into a pan, roll it out, cut it into cubes and make energy bars/squares.
